Trivia. In its first year of existence, the floor markings changed. Originally the restricted area, also called the free-throw lane, was very narrow and unpainted. But in 1956 the rules were changed to add offensive goal-tending, and to facilitate the new rule the area was widened and painted, in this case the school colors -- green and gold.
